Aphids cause dripping honeydew. Native to Central Europe to Caucasus.
     A Fagus sylvatica 'purpurea' atropunicea in Menlo Park is registered as a California Big Tree. It measures 72 feet high, with a trunk circumference of 119 inches and a crown spread of 59 feet.
