Maytenus boaria


General Notes


     Resistant to oak root fungus. Takes some drought. Must have good drainage. Cal-IPC (California Invasive Plant Council) classifies this plant as invasive, with a note of infestation on Angel Island, San Francisco Bay. Native to Chile.
     A Maytenus boaria in Fremont is registered as a California Big Tree. It measures 36 feet high, with a trunk circumference of 83 inches and a crown spread of 40 feet.
