Has Deciduous foliage.

Leaves Elliptic to Ovate, Glossy Purple, Bronze or Red, Deciduous.

Brown Nut in Spiny Husk, Medium (0.50 - 1.50 inches), fruiting in Fall Edible.

Bark Dark Gray or Light Gray, Smooth.
